The unexpected Calabria: the cultural events of summer 2023 in the Costa degli Dei.
The summer brings with it the desire to live life to the fullest, go out and enjoy exhibitions, festivals and multitudinous other moments in the open air.
The Costa degli Dei offers several events dedicated to lovers of literature, theatre, music and design.
We have selected some exclusively for you, relatively close to our venue.
“Theatrical sightings” in Torre Marrana, Ricadi.
From 1st to 30th August, they'll spend an entire month dedicated to contemporary theatre in the amphitheatre at the foot of the ancient Aragonese watchtower bestowing the event's name. The Sightings billboard not only includes shows but presents a wide-ranging cultural programme that embraces various arts and disciplines: ranging from cinema to yoga, music, archaeology and even literature. In the evocative setting of the archaeological park, the leading companies from the new Italian drama panorama shall perform against the backdrop of food and wine meetings plus other surprises.
"Colorfest" in Madia (CZ)
11 - 12 - 13 August.
Three days of live music, sixteen names in the line-up, bands and artists of international scope exclusively for Southern Italy. Colorfest has been working on the new Italian sound for over ten years bringing it into the Calabrian summer. And once again, it hosts respectable names that have nothing to envy from the major European festivals, with the headliners such as Franz Ferdinand and Verdena but also reality more than a niche of great charm: such as the sound between funk and the disco of Naples Segreta, or the hypnotic rhythms of Seun Kuti & Egypt 80.
“Summer at Casa Berto” in Capo Vaticano, Ricadi
Scheduled from September 7 to 10, the exhibition bearing the writer Giuseppe Berto's name will also involve significant figures from the Italian cultural scene who meet for debates, screenings and talk shows. Among the guests who have already confirmed their presence are the director Luca Lucini, actors Domenico Pinelli, Anna Ammirati, composer and violinist Rodrigo D'erasmo, translator and editor Nick Ceramella, journalists Anna Mallamo, Marco Mottolese, Giancarlo Loquenzi, Marco Antonellis, Valeria Bonacci, Ethologist and Academician of the Lincei Enrico Alleva, scholar Rosie Costantino and finally authors Emanuele Trevi , Raffaele Gaetano, Francis Thomas Galway and Valeria Montebello.
Materia Independent Design Festival, Tropea
From 25 to 30 September Tropea will become a new capital of design hosting the eighth edition of the Materia Festival.
The theme of the new edition combines design and tourism is “Matter on holiday”: the world of creativity, applied to industry, moving towards new lifestyles. “Holiday”, understood as a pleasant experience of a journey, thus acquires a poetic and POP meaning.
Directed by the Calabrian designer Antonio Aricò, the festival will engage you with its energy and art installations in the village's historic centre and one of the most iconic places in the city: the historic convent of the Order of the Friars Minims of San Francesco di Paola, today the luxury hotel Villa Paola, will exceptionally open its wonderful terraced gardens to visitors to this event.
